Question:
We are currently experiencing an issue with some video files in Acquire Player, which appear to suffer from a noise effect and the edges of the text on screen is not clear. As the content runs on large LED Screens the effect is more dramatic (less so on smaller displays but still noticeable). What is causing this and how can it be resolved?
Resolution:
In the first instance, please check the Graphics Card, Drivers and Settings to ensure these are not causing the issue (particularly if you have multiple Units playing the same content but only one with the problem).
You should also check the video file in Windows Media Player on the Unit in question, to see if this correctly plays in here. If so, this is almost certainly likely to be the Codec which Acquire Player uses to playback the video.
Please note: we are aware of an issue with Acquire Player using DirectShow - EVR (recommended) playback setting installed on Windows 10 2016 LTSB (Windows 10 IoT) using the Default Options in K-Lite Codec Pack and playing interlaced H.264 (.mp4) video causing this issue. If your Unit meets this criteria and you have tried changing to a different playback method in Acquire Player, which corrects the video, then try the following:
1. Turn on the PC and in Windows Start Menu/Search type Codec and as you type Codec Tweak Tool should appear, click to select this.
2. Click Win7DSFilterTweaker, as shown:
3. For H.264, click on Microsoft and then click Apply & Close, then Reboot, as shown:
Question:
Please note: this article only references H.264 video (.mp4), but depending on the format of the video you may need to try other settings in the Codec Tweak Tool. Another option is to transcode the video and/or to ensure videos are encoded with Progressive scan NOT Interlaced (although many Graphics Card will have a separate Deinterlace option in the Application that you can check and test).
