Question:
What happens to an Acquire Player if the local Internet connection fails?
Resolution:
Acquire Player does not stream content from servers, so if network connection fails it will not effect the content playing on the screens. All of the Content and Playlists for playing the Project is stored on the PC or the servers. When you press Deploy, a copy of this is transferred to the Player(s). If the connection is not fast enough or unstable, it may take a while to arrive on the player(s), but the software will keep retrying until it arrives successfully. Of course, if the connection is unavailable, the updates will not arrive until the connections is restored and any content the Player is collecting from other sources (e.g. RSS feeds) will also not be updated.
Ultimately if the Acquire Player is not connected to a valid network with Internet connection for a period of time may result in downtime to your business. Using tools such as those provided by Site Manager, can help reduce the impact of such events.
IMPORTANT: An Acquire Player, that is registered via the PLUS! Network requires an on-going Internet connection and must be able to able to contact our server at least once in every 15 days for the licence to remain active. If this does not happen, then Acquire Player will not load and you see a Checking Licence message appear on screen.
