Question:
I have loaded the Acquire Player but need to get back in to Windows desktop, I have tried using Alt + F4 and Task Manager but it keeps coming back. How can I abort this?
Resolution:
When you install the Acquire Player, a companion piece of software known as System Sentinel is also installed and runs in the background as a Windows Service (unlike previous versions). System Sentinel performs many tasks, such as to keep Acquire Player alive or restarts it in the event of a crash and automatically starts it when Windows loads. It is also designed to stop unauthorised users accessing the Player and also blocks certain facilities on a PC. Such as being able to view the Desktop, unless a pass-phrase, also known as a break command is entered.
If you wish to exit Acquire Player once it has loaded, press Esc and ignore Player Settings window but quickly type sentinel - you do NOT need to press Enter and no keystrokes are shown. If done correctly, the System Sentinel window will appear, as shown below:
If you need to temporarily access the PC, then you can double-click the System Sentinel header to minimize the window. If you have left it minimised, the player will resume after 5 minutes of inactivity, otherwise click Quit to exit completely. Please note: System Sentinel will relaunch Acquire Player resume automatically when rebooted.
IMPORTANT: Acquire Players in client environments, do not always have a keyboard attached to it, however kiosks, such as booking points do and therefore we strongly recommend you change the default break command during installation of the Acquire Player software. If this is changed, please keep it safe somewhere! As we will be unable to recover this for you if forgotten and means Windows will have to be re-installed if lost.
